Background: Despite receiving biochemically adequate levothyroxine replacement, many patients with primary hypothyroidism suffer from persistent symptoms and a reduced quality of life (QoL). The underlying causes of this phenomenon are not fully understood, but psychological factors, autoimmune inflammation, and variations in thyroxine conversion have all been suggested as potential contributors.
